Lake Ontario Lake Ontario is the eastern most of the Great Lakes and the smallest in surface area, measuring 311 km (193 m) from east to west and 85 km (53 m) across. The lake serves as a national border with the province of Ontario on its northern and southwestern shores and the state of New York on its southeastern banks.
